In the lead-up to Eid Al Adha and in line with the objectives of the “Year of Family”, the Community Development Authority (CDA) in Dubai continued its efforts to launch integrated humanitarian and community initiatives aimed at spreading joy among all community members and enhancing family and social stability, in collaboration with a number of government, private, and charitable entities. These efforts reflect Dubai’s humanitarian approach rooted in solidarity, generosity, and the promotion of quality of life.

The CDA implemented the “Eidiya” initiative on the occasion of Eid Al Adha, benefiting more than 11,700 registered beneficiaries, in a step that reflects the authentic Emirati values associated with the occasion and strengthens the social support system directed towards families and vulnerable groups. The initiative was implemented in cooperation with several strategic partners from the government, private, and charitable sectors, including the Awqaf and Minors Affairs Foundation, Union Coop, Dubai Land Department, Khalifa Juma Al Nabooda Group, Beit Al Khair Society, Dar Al Ber Society, and Tarahum Charity Foundation, reflecting integrated community efforts and reinforcing the culture of giving and social solidarity in Dubai.

Her Excellency Hessa bint Essa Buhumaid, Director General of the Community Development Authority in Dubai, affirmed that these initiatives embody the values of compassion and solidarity that distinguish UAE society and reflect the CDA’s commitment to strengthening meaningful community partnerships aimed at supporting families and vulnerable groups and bringing joy to them during blessed occasions. She noted that sustainable community work is built on the integration of roles among various entities, contributing to enhanced quality of life and strengthened social cohesion.

Her Excellency said: “Dubai continues to reinforce its position as a global model in humanitarian and social work through impactful initiatives that place people and families at the heart of its development priorities, in line with the objectives of the Dubai Social Agenda 33, which aims to build a more connected and cohesive society and strengthen a sustainable system of social protection and empowerment for all community members.”

The initiative targeted families and individuals receiving financial assistance registered with the Community Development Authority, in addition to other priority groups, including minors and fishermen, within an integrated community framework aimed at strengthening family stability and social cohesion. The total number of beneficiaries of the “Eidiya” initiative exceeded 11,700 beneficiaries.

The total value of the initiative reached AED 27.7 million, covering support allocations provided to beneficiaries of social financial assistance and minors, within the framework of community partnerships that reflect cooperation among entities concerned with social work and contribute to maximizing the social impact of initiatives aimed at supporting families and vulnerable groups.

The initiative also included support for fishermen through prepaid cards provided by Union Coop, in addition to a co-design session organised by the CDA to check on their wellbeing and identify their needs, enhancing the sustainability of support provided to this group while taking into account their social and living requirements.

The initiatives also included a contribution of AED 5 million provided by Beit Al Khair Society in collaboration with the “Jood” platform in support of the Community Development Fund, contributing to reinforcing the values of solidarity and giving and enhancing the impact of sustainable community partnerships in supporting families and vulnerable groups.

the CDA implemented a humanitarian initiative to distribute 250 fruit baskets on the occasion of Eid Al Adha, in collaboration with the UAE Food Bank, an initiative under Dubai Municipality, as part of efforts aimed at promoting a culture of giving and sustainable humanitarian work. The initiative benefited 65 participants from the “Waleef” initiative, in addition to 185 beneficiaries from senior citizens in Al Barsha majlis. The baskets were delivered directly to beneficiaries’ homes, enhancing accessibility and service quality while reflecting the values of integrated care and social solidarity.

These initiatives reaffirm the CDA’s commitment to continuously advancing community work and strengthening the impact of sustainable humanitarian partnerships, contributing to supporting families and vulnerable groups, reinforcing the values of giving and solidarity, and further enhancing Dubai’s position as a leading global model in social development and community wellbeing.

On one hand, India has a large number of educated unemployed youth, and on the other, the industry is short of skilled professionals. One of the biggest challenges HR managers face today, is finding candidates and match them with the right skillsets. Being qualified is one thing, being skilled for the job quite another. How do we overcome the challenge of getting skilled professionals Skill development training, if delivered in a balanced and well-defined manner, can help bring talent to industry.

Against 12.8 million new entrants to the country’s workforce every year, the capacity of skill development in India is only around 3.1 million. The 12th Five Year Plan set out to increase this capacity to 15 million, and to meet this, skill development through engagement with both the public and private sectors stakeholders, was thought necessary.

The National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) was set up as a part of the National Skill Development Mission in 2008-2009 to address the growing need for skilled manpower across sectors. It was felt that the skill of a large number of young people from the unorganised sector, who lack formal certification, could be utilised under umbrella initiatives recognised by the Government. Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ambitious Skill India campaign targets training 40 crore people in different skills by 2022. It includes initiatives like the National Skill Development Corporation; the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana and the Deen Dayal Upadhyay Grameen Kaushalya Yogna — flagship schemes to incentivise skill training. But lack of awareness about such training programmes, absence of adaptability with changing market needs, and lack of vertical mobility are key challenges facing skill development landscape in India.

Bridging the Gap

Private vocational training institutes can play a major role in helping Government with skill development. The growing disconnects between higher education and industry requirement in India is, today, a matter of grave concern. With our over-emphasis on academic performance, even top-ranked universities are producing qualified, but hardly employable graduates and the employability gap gets wider, every day. Skill development needs to be a strong component of our educational curriculum. A good mix of classroom teaching and practical training is what is needed.

Industry-ready Talent

The last few years has seen an exponential rise in the number start-ups in the country. We need to explore the possibilities of investing in them and feed them not just with funds but also with well-trained and industry-ready professionals. Job training institutes can play a big role in picking up deserving candidates with industry tie-ups.

Smooth coordination between industry and placement institutes helps in tapping of the right potential and creating industry-ready talent. Accreditations and certifications from the industry also add value to new entrants to the job market.

Perfect Matching

There is no dearth of jobs.  The shortage really is of the required skills for a particular job. Many a time, an organisation needs only 10 plus 2 candidates from a rural background to fill its vacancies. Training and placement institutes can match organisation’s and the candidate's requirement. Perfect matching is the key to good placement. The idea is to get the right candidate for the right job.

Internship

Internships provide students hands-on work opportunity and help them learn to apply their theoretical knowledge to real life situation. They are stepping stones to the job market.

Many companies give high-performing interns job offers; others give internship certificate which could help one land a good job.  Placement institutes that have tie-ups with   multinationals and industry bodies can facilitate internships and jobs.

Soft Skills

Good communication and soft skills are part of the job requirement. Placement training institutes can help students master soft skills to increase their market value. From expanding their business vocabulary and increasing their speaking skills, to writing customised e-mails for clients, and preparing interesting Power Point presentation, all these can be learnt at placement training institutes.

Mock Interviews

Companies no longer just look for academic excellence; They lay great stress on a candidate’s suitability for the job and mock interviews and assessment tests can be great tools for preparing for the day of reckoning. They provide appropriate grooming and build up confidence for campus placement interview. Placement institutes can conduct mock interviews, written assessments, and group discussions to prepare students for recruitment.  They can organise seminars, workshops and motivational lectures by industry stalwarts to help students understand the latest trends and projections in the industry and perform well at the interview.

Job Fairs

There is need to organise job fairs to aid the recruitment and networking. The attempt should be to connect prospective employees with multiple employers.  Such recruitment fairs give students industry exposure and the interactions held provide students real-time experience about the hiring process and methodologies.

Futuristic Skills

We live in a fast-changing technological world. If India wants to move up in the comity of nations, we need to improve our educational infrastructure, and technology is its most important component. We need to integrate technology at the grass root level and introduce futuristic skills to students. The aim should be to empower schools and to support the budding generation of change makers and innovators to visualise, design and create.

No matter how hard you try, if you feel nervous about a job interview, it's virtually impossible to conceal your anxiety - your compulsive face-touching is a dead giveaway.
The key to conveying confidence when you're in the hot seat, then, is to keep calm and carry on.

Easy, right?

Well, if you employ some of these strategies for remaining calm during a job interview, it could be.

Here are 11 strategies for banishing your job interview jitters.

Research the company and practice common interview questions

Nothing eliminates stress and provides more confidence than proper preparation for an interview, Amanda Augustine, a career-advice expert for TopResume, tells Business Insider.

First, research the company you're interviewing with, the interview process there, and what kind of questions the company likes to ask using sites like Glassdoor. Then, practice answering these questions and other common interview questions like Tell me about yourself and Tell me about a time when ... The key is to practice but not memorize your answers, Augustine says.

Vicky Oliver, author of 301 Smart Answers to Tough Interview Questions, also suggests coming to the interview prepared with reasons why you would be a great addition to the company, what problems you can help the company solve, and how your past experience and the company's current mission dovetail.

Winging it doesn't make you look real, O'Donnell notes. It makes you look like you didn't care enough to want the job.

Prepare for the worst

As they say, the best defense is a good offense, and knowing in advance how you'd handle an awkward interview scenario can mean the difference between letting your nerves get the best of you and handling the pressure with grace.

Preparing for the worst-case scenario is a strategy Dale Carnegie recommended in his 1948 book, How to Stop Worrying and Start Living, based on an anecdote from Willis Carrier, the founder of the modern air-conditioning industry.

Carrier told Carnegie, When we force ourselves to face the worst and accept it mentally, we then eliminate all these vague imaginings and put ourselves in a position in which we are able to concentrate on our problem.

Here are a couple awkward interview scenarios you can prepare for:

• Not knowing the answer to a question during a job interview

If this happens, Oliver suggests trying to answer the question the best you can and using your thank you email to fill out the answer more.

• Being asked questions you don't want to answer

You want to be authentic, but you also need to sell yourself, Oliver says. Say you were asked why you were let go from your last job: Be honest, but still paint it in the best light, Oliver suggests. The key is to focus on the positive and talk about lessons you learned from the job.

Do a dry run

A week before your interview, Augustine suggests commuting to the location of your interview during the same time of day you are scheduled to become comfortable with the route and budget your travel time appropriately.

If this isn't possible, apps like Google Maps and Waze can help you account for traffic or travel delays.

When in doubt, give yourself at least 30 minutes buffer time so you don't show up late because of an unexpected commuting snafu, Augustine says. Just be sure if you arrive at least 15 minutes before your interview to wait in your car or in a café around the corner, since arriving too early can leave a sour taste in your interviewers mouth.

Snack strategically

Augustine suggests cutting your caffeine intake in half the day of your interview to keep the jitters at bay and filling up on foods that are natural beta blockers like bananas, almonds, oatmeal, and pomegranate juice. These foods can help lower your blood pressure, lessen your anxiety, and reduce your heart rate.

Exercise

Rosemary Haefner, chief human-resources officer for CareerBuilder, suggests developing a pre-interview routine that helps you stay calm, collected, and optimistic. One routine could include working out before an interview.

Exercise is a great way to burn off nervous energy so you don't bound into the interview room overly enthusiastic, Augustine says. As an added bonus, the extra endorphins will help boost your mood and provide a positive state of mind.

For some inspiration, Mark Balfe-Taylor, the director of yoga at TruFusion, shared with Business Insider some yoga poses that will get your heart pumping and help relax your overactive mind.

Meditate

You don't have to be a yogi to reap the benefits of meditation before a crucial interview, Augustine says. Meditation can be as simple as closing your eyes for a minute, taking a few slow, deep breaths, and visualizing yourself crushing the interview.

Strike a power pose

Just before your interview, you might try ducking into the bathroom and striking what Harvard psychologist Amy Cuddy dubbed a power pose.

Cuddy describes power poses as expansive and open stances where you take up a lot of space and hold your arms and legs away from your body.

When you expand your body, Cuddy previously told Business Insider, your mind starts to feel more confident and powerful — it starts to see those challenging situations not as threats but as opportunities.

Give yourself a pep talk

Pep talks are fairly common in the locker room, but they can also be great just before heading into a job interview. Just be sure you're not within earshot of anyone while you're saying your piece.

Various research points to the power of self-talk and suggests using your first name or the pronoun you instead of I can make it easier to deal with stressful experiences.

Admit you're nervous

If you're nervous before an interview, pretending not to be can actually make things worse.

According to recent research out of Harvard, once activated, a state of arousal, as when someone is anxious, is difficult to control.

And other research out of Boston University suggests that hiding your feelings of anxiety from observers, which researchers call suppression, can actually lead to an increase in feelings of anxiety and heart rate.

Some experts take this research a step further and even advise admitting to interviewers your nervousness. As Business Insider previously reported, a moderately observable amount of nervousness can signal passion to others without hurting your performance.

Reframe your nervousness as excitement

Harvard researchers suggest reframing your anxiety as excitement, rather than trying to calm down, since anxiety and excitement are both states of high arousal.

Anxious study participants who announced that they felt excited during public speaking engagements were perceived by the audience as more persuasive and competent, as previously reported by Business Insider.

Stop obsessing over what you'll say next

One major flaw people make while trying to ensure a good first impression during an interview is trying too hard to appear interesting, while disregarding what the other person has to say, Dr. Lillian Glass, behavior analyst, body language expert, and author of The Body Language of Liars, previously told Business Insider.

Focus on being interested, not interesting, Glass suggested. She said this will make navigating the discussion much easier, since you have less of a chance getting lost in your own thoughts.

A chief suspect in Malawi`s "Cashgate" corruption scandal, who was a high-ranking official and financier of president Peter Mutharika`s Democratic Progressive Party, was arrested by police on Sunday.

Oswald Lutepo was held days after sending a letter to the Attorney General claiming he was threatened and told not to implicate Mutharika in the "Cashgate" allegations, the biggest financial scandal in the history of the small southern African country.

"Yes, Mutharika has been re-arrested and he will be charged for perjury," police prosecutor Rodwel Ziyaya from Kasungu district in central Malawi, told AFP.

Lutepo was arrested in November last year for money laundering after he allegedly pocketed $6 million (4.4 million euros) from government coffers through ghost companies which did not provide any services to the state.

"Cashgate" erupted after an audit ordered by former president Peter Mutharika found that $30 million in state funds had been looted by officials in less than six months last year.

The scandal led international donors to suspend $150 million in aid to Malawi, where half of its 15 million people live below the poverty line.

In his letter, which was also addressed to Western embassies, Lutepo claimed he was "warned against linking Cashgate to the (former) head of state, her family and the Democratic Progressive Party".

He also said that he was threatened and told to "implicate" former justice minister in the shooting of budget director and corruption whistleblower last year, the incident which sparked "Cashgate".

She was defeated in a hotly-contested presidential election in May.

In February this year, a report by British auditors -- commissioned by Mutharika -- showed that $30 million had been stolen from the government within a six-month period last year.
